West Central High School Student Receives Prestigious Loran Award
Wild Rose School Division is happy to celebrate West Central High School student, Janelle Weslowski who has been selected as a 2017 Loran Award Recipient. The Loran Award is given to young Canadians who match criteria based around integrity, commitment to their community and long-term leadership potential. Janelle was one of 33 candidates selected out of 4,438 individuals who applied for this award.
“The main reason I was able to apply for this scholarship was because of the support I received from Mrs. Wigley and Mrs. Ulhmann, two of my teachers,” stated Janelle Weslowski. “ This award is special in how it acknowledges not only academics, but leadership as well. My teachers recognized this, and their faith in my abilities inspired me to share with the Loran Foundation.
During Janelle’s time in Rocky she has been an active member in community theater working as a choreographer, choir member and actress. She also volunteers with her church and runs a youth group who help volunteer at the local soup kitchen and assist in cleaning activities. Upon graduating this year Janelle plans on attending the University of Toronto. The Loran Scholarship has a value of over $100,000 that is spread over a four year period. Janelle plans to use this to study forensic science.
