The Town of Drayton Valley and Brazeau County Welcome Community School Resource Officer

Wild Rose School Division, Brazeau County and the Town of Drayton Valley are pleased to announce that a full-time Community School Resource Officer (CSRO) starts work in the Drayton Valley public schools on May 1. Constable Poitr (Peter) Ulanowski will establish relationships with administration, teachers, and students, promote family wellness, provide education on substance abuse, bullying, Internet safety, drinking and driving, among other topics. He will spend the majority of his time in schools. Constable Ulanowski has been a member of the Drayton Valley RCMP detachment for approximately 3.5 years and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Diploma in Criminology.

“This position will help ensure that students’ first interaction with law enforcement is a positive one,” says Brazeau County Reeve, Bart Guyon. “The CSRO will help develop self-esteem, confidence, and lifelong safety skills.”

“The Community School Resource Officer will be an important asset in building resiliency in our school-aged youth by linking at risk youth with critical support agencies in the community,” says Drayton Valley Mayor, Glenn McLean. “By helping our youth, these agencies can also help families facing challenging circumstances.”

Working together is always the best way to ensure the success of community programs and this partnership between the Town of Drayton Valley, Brazeau County and Wild Rose School Division is an excellent example of this. Moving forward, as this position continues to grow, the positive impact it will have on the community will increase daily.

“We are very pleased that through this excellent partnership our schools in Drayton Valley will now have the assistance of a Community School Resources Officer, says WRSD Superintendent, Brad Volkman. “Providing all of our students and staff with a safe and caring learning environment every day is one of our top priorities and I know this position will do just that.”

The Community School Resource Officer position is the result of a partnership and funding agreement between Wild Rose School Division, Brazeau County, and the Town of Drayton Valley.
