Read For 15 Challenge

Libraries across Alberta are reaching out to encourage citizens to read for 15 minutes on January 27, 2017 to win the title of Alberta’s most ‘readerly’ community for Family Literacy Day. Wild Rose School Division wants to join the Read for 15 challenge with the goal to promote the importance of literacy in our communities.

“Literacy is the foundation of all other skills essential to learning,” stated Division Literacy Lead/Flex Learning Teacher and Designer, Kim Wedman “Thanks to the fantastic community support we have received we are confident this event will encourage families to take time each day to read together and celebrate literacy.”

Wild Rose School Division has a variety of reading events to celebrate family literacy day going on throughout the week. In partnership with the Rocky Mountain House & Drayton Valley Libraries, local Learning Councils and Saint Matthews School, WRSD will be giving out books throughout the week and promoting literacy. Watch for pop-up locations in your town to receive a free book!

Participation in the Read for 15 Challenge is easy. After you finish your 15 minutes of reading your chosen material, let the Rocky Mountain House library know by either:

  1. Tweeting with the hashtag #readfor15Rocky
  2. Posting a picture using the hashtag #readfor15Rocky on Facebook or Instagram
  3. Contacting the Rocky Mountain House Public Library and they will add your reading to the tally.
