Wild Rose School Division Chooses Name for new Replacement School in Drayton Valley

On December 17, 2019 the WRSD Board of Trustees made the decision to name the new replacement school Evergreen Elementary School. 

The Board had received from the Naming Committee a list of 10 names from which the Board would choose a name. The 10 names on this recommended list were:

• Atlas Elementary
• Barry Dodd Elementary
• Discovery Elementary
• Eldorado Elementary
• Evergreen Elementary
• Horizon Elementary
• Maegan Waltz Elementary
• Powerhouse Elementary
• Rita Steele  Elementary
• River Valley Elementary

The committee recommended these 10 names to the Board based on a community survey that received 279 responses. In making their final decision, the Board took into consideration the fact that the new school is replacing the old Evergreen Elementary School and is located on the same site. As such the Evergreen name is easily identifiable and has great significance for the students, staff, parents and community.

The Board of Trustees would like to thank the Naming Committee for their work as well as the students, staff, parents and community members that completed the survey.  We are very excited that construction of Evergreen Elementary School is progressing very nicely and is on schedule to be complete in January 2021.
