Construction on the Lochearn Roof and flood damaged areas is moving along as estimated. The asbestos removal work in the gymnasium is on track to be completed by Thursday, September 3. Staff will be entering the building on Friday, September 4 to prepare for classes on Tuesday, September 8. Throughout the asbestos removal process, ongoing air quality in and out of the gymnasium was monitored for the presence of asbestos. Not once during the removal process was contamination outside of the gymnasium found. These reports will be provided to the public once we receive them from the third party indoor environmental consultant. The gymnasium is on schedule to be completed by the middle of October.

“The closure of our gym will affect us but we do have plans in place to ensure our students still have the daily required minutes for physical activity,” stated Principal, Danielle Spencer. “Students will all be skating twice a week, moving regularly scheduled activities outside and in case of bad weather an extra classroom has been reconfigured for physical activity.”

The roofing area to the south of the front entrance is on schedule to be finished by the end of this week and the interior work will be finished before September 8. The next step in roof construction will be on the remaining south & south west area. Weather permitting, this area will be done by the end of September. Metal cladding is starting today on site which will put the final touches on the parapet caps and final flashing details. Following that installation, the eavestroughing / downspouts will be completed.
