Organizational Meeting

The Board elected Daryl Scott as Board Chair and Heidi Hetherington as Vice Chair for another year.  The 2024-2025 Board Work Plan and Board Meeting dates were approved, and trustee representatives for committees were chosen.  

Trustee Resignation

Trustee Bearhead submitted her resignation at the start of the meeting.  The Board discussed whether or not a by-election should be held. Rather than incur this cost, it was decided that the Board would continue with five trustees until the next election in October 2025. Per the Education Act, the Board is not required to hold a by-election to fill the vacancy. 

International Field Trips

The upcoming National Student Leadership Summit field trip to Indiana was approved for July 2024, and West Central High School was given approval in principle for their trip to Italy and Spain during spring break 2026.

Board Discussions

The Board had engaging conversations about the need for new policies or procedures for Artificial Intelligence and its use in schools, as well as the new personal devices in classrooms directive from the Minister.

Trustee Reports

The Board has been very busy this last month attending the ASBA Spring General Meeting, the PSBAA Spring Assembly, Rural Caucus, as well as numerous year end celebrations and graduations that are being held across the division in all our schools.
