David Thompson High School Modernization Update
March 5, 2018
On February 9, 2018, Wild Rose School Division received a letter from Alberta Education acknowledging our challenges regarding the current David Thompson High School modernization project. They also expressed support for our plan to relocate all of our K-12 students in the corridor region to the Condor and Leslieville schools. This support includes helping us accommodate high school students and programming in the short term while planning for a more permanent and long term resolution through the capital planning process.
On February 23, 2018 Alberta Education further informed us that we will be receiving a value management session on April 19 and 20, 2018. The purpose of this value management will be to determine the best long term option for our schools in Leslieville and Condor such that they will be able to accommodate the programming needs for all K-12 students in the corridor. We will be discussing concerns, functionality and programming priorities for this project. The results of this value management will be included in Wild Rose School Division’s annual capital plan submission to Alberta Education.
Stakeholders involved in this value management will include Alberta Education and Infrastructure, a facilitator, architectural consultants, cost consultants, jurisdiction staff, principals, parents and representatives from Clearwater County. As such, we will need one parent representative from each of David Thompson High School, Leslieville School and Condor School for the value management session on April 19 and 20. Any parents interested in being the representative for their respective school should contact their school’s principal.
Alberta Education has encouraged us to pursue community partnerships for the purpose of collaboration and project enhancements that would best meet community needs. Please see WRSD Policy 21: Corporate Sponsorship for further details regarding such partnerships. We are encouraging potential partners to contact Wild Rose School Division as soon as possible.
We plan to continue making use of David Thompson High School for both the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years, after which we will need to move all of our corridor students into Condor and Leslieville schools and begin the process of remediating the lagoon. For 2018-19 we will continue to make use of all 3 schools in the corridor.
We are very excited about the support we are receiving from Alberta Education for this project. Together it is our ongoing goal to ensure all of our K-12 students in the corridor will continue to receive an excellent education in school facilities that support 21st century learning and program delivery.
