Board Highlights - March 18, 2025
2026-2029 WRSD Three Year Capital Plan
The Board approved the 2026-2029 Three Year Capital Plan as presented. The plan recognizes four priorities in order; Right-size Town of Rocky Mountain House Schools, Modernization of Aurora Elementary School, Modernization and Right Size of Caroline School, Modernization of Frank Maddock High School.
Capital plans must be submitted to Alberta Education annually by April 1. There are over 300 project requests made to the Ministry of Education each year and 41 projects will be approved this year. If a project is approved, the local school board, Alberta Education and Alberta Infrastructure work together on the details of the project to help ensure it meets students’ needs.
International Field Trip
Students from Caroline School will be travelling to Switzerland, Italy, Monaco, France and Spain this spring break after obtaining final approval from the Board.
Edwin Parr Nominees
The Board had the opportunity to meet with WRSD’s two finalists, Joelle Vig and Wyatt Russell for the Zone 4 Edwin Parr award that recognizes excellence in first year teaching. Joelle Vig from HW Pickup School was selected as our 2025 candidate. The Alberta School Board Association sponsored award ceremony and celebration will be held in May, where a finalist will be chosen from all Zone 4 boards.
Trustee Activities
Trustees shared the highlights from their parent council, TBAC and municipal partner joint meetings, as well as the recent Alberta Rural Education Symposium that they attended.
