Board Highlights - December 17, 2024
MLA Andrew Boitchenko and MLA Jason Nixon
The Board discussed several topics with our local MLA’s including the mental health pilot funding, excessive testing and reporting at primary grades, school construction and modernization feedback, funding for disabled and complex student needs and Jordan’s Principle funding delays. Senior administration provided detailed information to our MLA’s to help them advocate for permanent mental health funding, improved complex student need funding and a resolution to the Jordan’s Principle backlog. The Board continues to advocate strongly for our students, and appreciates the support of our local MLA’s.
Accountability Reports
The Director of Facilities shared the highlights from his 2023-2024 report, which include service van replacement, Powerhouse campus opening and the Rocky Mountain House value management. Challenges continue to be staffing shortages, and operating with reduced staff.
The Director of Technology reviewed his 2023-2024 report, and presented the cyber security report. The IT team continues to address password strength, multifactor authentication and google sign ins for all staff.
Collegiate Schools Application
The Board made a motion in support of WRSD’s application for a collegiate school in Drayton Valley. This will align nicely with the Board’s long term goals, our current facilities in Drayton Valley and will capitalize on staff strengths and community support.
Superintendent Search
Leaders International is managing the process for finding a new superintendent for WRSD. The Board will participate in shortlisting candidates and interviews early in the new year.
