Student Safety Reminder - Attempted Luring Incident
Around 4:20 pm on February 9, after school. A student from St. Matthews School reported to one of their staff members that they had seen the occupants of a dirty black truck with a headache rack and two large exhaust pipes, try to call a student over.
The occupants of the truck were described as two young adults/teenagers. They tried calling the student over to the truck and bribing the student with two bags of candy. An adult member of the St. Matthew staff confirmed the event and the school reported the incident to both the RCMP and the neighbouring schools.
We have informed our school personnel to be on the lookout for a vehicle fitting this description. Also, our teaching staff are being encouraged to review strategies for staying safe around strangers with their students.
None of our schools have had a similar incident in Rocky Mountain House. However it is important to inform our community, parents and staff of yesterday’s incident at St. Matthew School. We also encourage our parents/guardians to review precautions children need to take in events like this one. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to call your local school or the Division Office.
