Administrative Procedure 305

School Attendance Areas

Background

Preamble:

The Division supports open school attendance areas within the jurisdiction. However, the Division reserves its right to direct students to attend a specific school when this appears to be in the best interest of the student, is necessary for programming reasons, or is required to ensure the viability of certain schools.

Procedures

Regulations:

1.      Transportation will normally be provided to the school closest to where the student resides, which offers an appropriate program.

2.      Transportation shall be provided or arranged for where the Division directs a student to attend a particular program or school within its jurisdiction. Transportation may be provided for students directed to another school within a town and more than 2.4 kilometres from their home.

3.      Where parents choose to send their children to a school other than the one(s) to which transportation would normally be provided, it shall be the responsibility of the parents to provide for transportation to and from school, at their own expense.
