Student Entrance Age

Background

Preamble:

 

Wild Rose School Division recommends that children attain the age of five years prior to entering kindergarten programs and six years of age prior to entry into grade one. Parents are cautioned to investigate fully the advantages and disadvantages associated with placing their children in kindergarten prior to the age of 5 years and in grade one prior to the age of 6 years.

Procedures

Regulations:

 

All students who have attained the age of six years by September 1 of the school year shall attend school (Section 8, School Act).

 

Notwithstanding the provision of the School Act, students who have attained the age of six years on or before December 31 of the year (s)he begins school shall be admitted to Divisional schools subject to the following:

 

Procedures:

 

1.      Beginning students shall be admitted only at the commencement of the school year.

 

2.      Children who are five years old on or before December 31 will be eligible for ECS.
